Struggling each day with our eyes
on the prize—here standing
boldly before us—remains
that Sisyphean mountain
of oppression fogging
the mountain top
of our eyes’ prize…
Yet, let us not be dismayed
but ever be reminded
of over the way we have come
shattering oppressive racist
rock-walls seeking to hinder our rise:
we are not of mythology but of God’s
reality: heirs of hope, faith, and the word…
Thus, despite the many rocky
Mountains that stand between us
and the mountain top of our liberation,
let us not be deterred, dismayed nor afraid;
we’re children of love and where love is,
fear and dismay are at the mercy of the
word of God:
“Whosoever shall say unto this
mountain, Be thou removed, and
be thou cast into the sea; and shall
not doubt in his heart, but shall believe
that those things which he saith
shall come to pass; he shall have
whatsoever he saith…”
My dear Sisters and Brothers,
the sea is waiting; let us lift
up every voice with the sledgehammer
of hope and the pick-ax of faith as we
shout…pluck…and toss today’s hindering
hurricane…pandemic mountains into
the sea of redemption…
Despite today’s mountainous
trials and tribulations testing
our hopes and determined faith,
let us forever know that our God
is our refuge and strength, that
very present help…resuscitating us…
in times of trouble…
Thus, let us forever be of good
courage, hope, and faith…knowing
that conquering today’s heinous mountains
will be tomorrow’s testimony of the word: …
[we] shall mount up winged like eagles…
running but not weary…walking but not faint…
swimming the sea to shore…
In our trekking sojourn towards
the mountaintop…let us forever be mindful…
pandemic apathy is a quiet viral infection
making fear malignant…eating away courage…
feeding despair…munching away desire to forever
live free rather than to die in mental slavery: indeed,
if there is ever hope of a tree, what of you and me…?!
