Cancion de Faye (Faye's Song)

it’s early in the morning before the stars have left the skies
she rises from her slumber and wipes the sleep from her eyes
her footsteps are like snowflakes resting on frozen limbs of trees
the sun rising from her window is the first thing that she sees

gently brushing hair waving softly as ocean tide
she turns to embrace her teddy sitting quietly by her side
he’s heard her whole life’s story, was soaked in all her tears
shared in all her triumphs, given comfort in all her fears

she checks the messages on the phone
no one called and she’s alone
quickly dressed and on her way
cancion de Faye...

her desk is full of pictures that should be placed in frames
an address book that’s empty but should be filled with names
morning coffee with her buddies, the star of all lunch breaks
the guys treat her like an equal but follow every move she makes

she thinks they’re sweet and kind
not knowing what’s on their mind
and it doesn’t matter anyway
cancion de Faye...

she carries herself regally as a fairy tale princess
strutting down the avenue in fashion slacks or dress
nothing ever out of place, in every situation
looks you straight in the eye in every conversation

everything to gain and nothing to lose
won’t pick anything if she can’t choose
no one knows what she’ll do today
cancion de Faye...

what is she looking for? so many people want to know
is what they see for real or is she putting on a show?
what would it take to make her happy, or is she already so?
living for tomorrow or today
cancion de Faye
cancion de Faye...
