Placing all calculations
Into the proper equations
All fit perfectly
In all mathematical
Social
Physical spectrums
And many nights I imagined just how
You would fit into my future life
How I would I be your husband
And how you would be my wife
Pondering during the family evening meal
Before heading to school
Consuming my breakfast cereal
The equation mom taught me
What I witnessed on the daily
What she called
Wife Material
And walking to school one day
In the dead of the winter's cold
I decided to be bold
Not to wait
For the time was fast approaching
To find a senior prom date
My approach to dating back then
Remembering when my approach to teenage love
Was quite different from the daily locker room gym talks
I believed in poetry and holding her books
Holding her hand during after school walks
And sometimes, occasionally
Having her sit next to me on the Sunday morning pew
Future wife material preview
After a polite and most respectful request
Asking them if they would be so inclined
To allow me to ask her for her hand
For her to be my prom date for the evening
I understand their parental position
Respectfully declining my
Respectful inquisition
And then two years later
She would graduate
Taking her life and her wife material
To another state
I wonder if she ever knew
She was one of only two
Who would ever perfectly fit the mathematical equation
Far beyond the metrics of algebra
Calculus, geometry and astrology
But the stars would never align perfectly
And I thought about all of this one morning
While pouring milk in my Apple Jacks cereal
A smile
Unknown to the world
She definitely was
Most honestly and respectfully
Almost wife material
