CRUMBLING MEMORIES

I passed that house everyday.

Equipped with rake and hoe,
the elderly couple always waved.
They had no car~nowhere to go.

Through the years I saw their bond.
Sometime holding hands, often a smile,
They were two peas in a pod
and had been ONE for a long while.

I drove that route one morning,
he was alone in the yard.
I saw the sadness in his face,
I saw him sobbing hard.

She was buried in their plot.
I played the piano~her favorite song.
On the front, I saw a slumped and broken man
and wondered how things could go so wrong.
~~
Neighbors found him that night,
they were two peas in a pod.
The couple will sleep together again
until they journey together to God.
