Traveling back in present day’s past
On my way to LAX
Got the best seat on the plane
The window seat.
Cruising altitude is 32K feet
High above the ground
And just about touching the clouds.
The sun brightly shining
Classical music comfortably plays
Making for yet another awesome
Experience despite nursing allergies.
It’s been 8 years since I was last
In view of the blue and white.
It’s so awesome up here.
Prayers were in place for all
From the moment I sat down and
Will continue until we’re safely
On the ground.
The sun has began its descent
As the sky has hued to a bluish gray.
A few rays still light the distant horizon
As the clouds seem to pass by
In slow motion.
The wing’s strobe light beacons
Throughout the flight
Making our presence known to
All that we’re here.
The clouds look like an ocean
Of cotton balls as we fly over them.
I use my pink knitted shawl
As a blanket for now.
My cousin Pat gifted me with it
In case the plane was cold.
And it is chilly on here and I’ve already
Adjusted the air nozzle above me,
Besides, it’s a bit crowded
But I’m comfortable.
Don’t really feel like moving or
Disturbing the passenger next to me.
The sky is graying and blurring more.
It’ll be darkening soon.
The sky is now a blur of gray
With a single streak of white
Waiting its turn to blend in.
It didn’t take long.
Everything’s a whitish gray now,
A little bit of turbulence gently
Bounces us back and forth.
This is the most I’ve felt it
During the flight thus far.
I just wish I could get a break
From the congestion and
Running marathon my nose decided
It wanted to do.
It has apparently disabled
It’s off switch
It seems we’ve caught up with the sun.
Traveling further back in time,
The sky has brightened a bit.
And judging by the time,
We’re about 2 more hours
Outside of our destination.
The water and snack cookies
Ease light hunger pangs.
The sky is bluing again.
The view stays in constant change.
I’ve periodically checked my phone’s
Settings to see where we are.
First Indiana, now Chicago.
The sky is darkening more now.
Soon the night sky will come
And we’ll be at our destination.
The stars are beginning to show
We’re just about to there now;
After a short nap, I was awakened
By a gentle shake of turbulence and
The change of the engine’s idle.
I pulled up my shade and gazed at
The sea of multicolored lights below us
It was an amazing sight.
The landing gear had engaged
And we were on final approach to LAX.
The dip in altitude and the turn
To align with the runway made for
A nice quick moment of euphoria.
I watched as the flaps were engaged
To slow us down as I listened to
The engines shift back and forth.
The touchdown was smooth and
Once we taxied off the runway,
I thanked God for keeping us safe.
It was still Wednesday night for me
But by the time we landed, home
Had already transitioned to Thursday.
It was amazing to watch the sky
Change as we tried to keep up
With the sun but I’m kinda glad
We couldn’t.
The experience was fascinating.
