Flying through the mid night’s sky
On the way back home
The flight is fairly quiet except for
Occasional baby cries.
My fellow passengers both are resting
With their heads on the trays.
I respectfully have pulled down
My seat’s window shade and
Placed my phone in night mode.
The cabin’s lights have been dimmed
Since takeoff.
Soft blue overheads softly
Illuminate as individual lights
Count each row of seats.
Most are out though as
Random clicks, taps and other movements
Play alongside the engine’s roar.
Some light turbulence gently rocks
Us as we go about.
The babies are now quietly sleeping.
Perhaps God heard my prayer
To comfort the babies and allow
The weary passengers to rest.
The stewardesses make their
Way with refreshments.
I munch on mini pretzels
About the size of a nickel and
Drink some water.
Random thoughts travel across
My frontal lobe.
Hot and cold flashes take turns
Coming and going like someone
In a revolving door.
Time zone check read Chicago.
About another two hours or so to go
We’ve caught up to Thursday but
Won’t see the sunrise until we land.
The starry night sky is slowly
Beginning to blend into a faded blue.
As I raise my shade I can see
A blur of white slowly blend itself
Into the distant horizon,
Almost as if we’re seeing the edge
Of the sun’s rays and the start
Of light blue skies.
A hint of orange can be seen now.
We’re about 80 miles out from
Philadelphia arriving early.
Pilot said we should be there in about 20 minutes.
Looking forward to seeing Cali again.
Now as I arrive back in the present,
Smilingly I say, hello Thursday.
