Beginning with the celebration
Of our Juneteenth,
We prepare a new perspective
For the 4th of July:-
Though this nation now stands stalled
On the brink,
She still remains our nation too; this
Can be no lie!
What a uniqueness her oppressed people
Now share?
Two juxtapose emancipation celebrations
Back-to-back;
Going from these times, only the future knows
To where:-
Oh what an interesting time it is for those of us
Born black—
Indigenous ones contemplating it all in utter
Amazement!
As for us, eyes on the prize must remain focused
In the present;
No more standing around and whining, for, it’s
Celebration time!
P.S.: Remember this, my Ladies and Sirs:
Indeed…we may not be where we
Want to be; we may not be where ought
To be; we may not be where we gonna be,
But praise God, we ain’t where we once were!”
Hey, although centuries delayed, JUNETEENTH
Has now become
A national holiday we’ve been celebrating from way
back yonder!
It’s celebration time, and once again, I share earlier words
Once penned;
For indeed, we want to make it abundantly clear that we are celebrating
Because we are aware that we are not the children of Sisyphus:
Rather, we are the children of the Womb of our Mother, Africa;
For we’re the children of the conquered Middle Passage; the
Children of Jacob’s ladder; the children of the Exodus, and
The children of the Cross; as well as the children of God’s
Resurrection and the eternal promise of emancipation!
At last…at last…the world joins with us; so come, brothers
And Sisters, let us celebrate—reconciling ourselves with
One another—on the glorious battlefield of our Savior:-
Again, oh children of God, let us gather and celebrate!
It’s a National Juneteeth Holiday; plus Father’s Day too!
Come, children of God, let us gather and celebrate joyfully:-
Let us celebrate on the Gulf Coast and plains of Texas!
Let us celebrate along the bayous and lakes of Louisiana!
Let us celebrate over the mountains of Tennessee and Georgia!
Let us celebrate from the Blue Ridge Mountains down to Shockoe
Bottoms in Virginia!
Let us celebrate across the hills and former cotton fields of
Alabama and Mississippi!
Let us celebrate in Tulsa and throughout all of Oklahoma!
Come, ye children of God, let us gather and celebrate!
Let us celebrate from the shores of the Pacific Ocean
To The shores of the Atlantic!
Let us celebrate from the snow-covered grounds of Alaska,
To the sands of Hawaii!
Come, let all America celebrate Junteenth—then, give her
Attention to The 4th Of July:-
