It’s about time
To be myself.
No matter what everyone says.
That doesn't pay my bills.
Free from society’s
So called “expectations.”
Free from doubt and underestimating
One’s own abilities.
We are all made to be unique.

QueenThroughout history, people thought that she’s a goddess on earth. I have been known for my beauty, My style, My grace, My class. I have been known for being The hostess of the nation But sometimes, a queen would have to become a king, Even if it means she would have to get off her throne and FIGHT! Besides, in a game of chess She moves where she wants.

He Reaches You SomehowSo, you love to observe art? The windows of His houses, Are stained with colors that illuminate His Light. And tell stories from His Holy Scripture, So, you like to read books? “The Good Book” was printed By a press from the revolution of Gutenburg. You like to listen to the radio, So a preacher does a radio sermon. You like to watch television? So you watch the televangelists. You are always on social media, So you see clergy do live streams, podcasts and shorts. No matter what advances The older generations think is evil, No matter where you are.... He reaches you somehow.

If YouIf you can’t get a job, create one. If you don’t fit in, stand out. If you don’t know what to do, do something. If you can’t find any opportunities, make them. If you can't find a home, build one. If you have no money, make money. It’s better than nothing.

My HairstoryI’ve sent messages. I’m debatable. Laws and policies have been made about me. I’m a multi-million dollar industry. Songs and movies have been written about me. I’ve been fried, I’ve been dyed, I’ve been laid to the side. I’ve been pressed, I’ve caused stress. I’ve been locked, I’ve been cut, I’ve been faded, I’ve been twisted, I’ve been weaved, I’ve been rowed like corn. I get so wigged out about these details. If I do not have any of it on top… I can always wear my CROWN.

Just Because: The Stereotype PoemJust because I’m black does not mean does not mean I'm inferior, I’m not meant to be treated like I’m subhuman Just because I’m a woman does not mean I’m a sex object, I do have a brain you know. Just because I’m a black woman does not mean I’m ugly, Black is beautiful. Just because my hair is natural does not mean I stopped wearing deodorant, I do practice good hygiene, you know. Just because I’m an American do... |
Red, Black, GreenRed: the color of passion, the color of excitement, the color of love, the color of beauty, the color of courage, the color of the blood that was shed by my ancestors and what binds us together as a human race Black: the color of power, the color of strength, the color of elegance, the color of rebellion, the color of individuality, the color of style, the color of sophistication, the color of Nubian people from the Motherland Green: the color of hope, the color of life, the color of harmony, the color of generosity, the color of renewal, the color of tranquility, the color of peace, the color of the plentiful natural treasure of Africa
These three colors unite together in the tapestry that brings the representation of the pride of all Africans and African Americans. |
