Life has thrown so much
Across the home plate
Of my ebony being.
Although I have not been struck out,
I now find myself facing a full count.
There have been many pop-ups
And a plethora of foul plays,
But I’ve yet to be put out:-
Many bigoted balls have been thrown at me
But Jesus has always been my life’s coach
And His divine wisdom, its sole umpire.
God has been so good to me
And has given me so many
Walks to sojourn in victory.
Although I have not been struck out,
I now find myself facing a full count.
Standing here vertically with hope in hands,
I wait for whatever life has yet left to throw me;
My swinging bat awaits its faithful home run slam:-
