Like chickens in a coop

We laid warm eggs of hope

Nights passed over and mornings came

The red rooster of oppression crowed out

And eggs hoped to hatch their yokes of justice

Were freely served and eaten by his fellows

But this morning the black rooster of liberation

Stands on the fence post crowing over the barnyard

Where hued chickens gather crowing and clucking

Their jubilation the seen and heard hatchings in hued nests.
