The Disguise
You hid me well with intentions on burying me for good
Held me captive behind your sacred walls convinced yourself that no one would find me even if they could
You decorated my exterior with pretty colors and sweet alluring deceitful scents
Tucked away all of it’s confusion
until it appeared to make perfect sense
You tried to hide me from the crowd
by creating beautiful distractions
Perfected the art of smiling through me
though deep inside you felt utter dissatisfaction
You hid me in places you hoped to never have to seek
Kept me far away from reality in hopes your costume of strength disguised the weak
I tried to break free from your shackles
to free you from despair
But every time I got close to escaping
you quickly closed the door and left me on my knees gasping for air
You were wrong to think that neglecting me would keep you afloat
You thought I’d try to be the captain of your ship when it was you who steered the boat
The power in my existence was always in your control
Keeping me away never did a thing
other than keep you from being whole
The moment you allowed me to travel down your face
Was when every story where I was the main character, became vacant to be replaced
You finally let me out and found power in my revelation
Saw beauty in my impact as it led you to better destinations
I am your pain but not the end of your story!!!
It is the release of my existence in your chapters that will now bring you closer to your glory
