Year and months
Employing the use of my poetic
GPS
Exact direction to your address
Blooming foliage of words
The scent reaching my senses
Long before I got there
The sweet floral smell of verbs
Nouns and adjectives
Flowing freely in the air
And so I found a parking spot
Not too far
Maybe a half a block down the street
I skipped breakfast earlier
And hurried to your house to eat
Stepping lightly upon your walkway
Knocking gently upon your front door
Greeting warmly by the host
To the large living room on the first floor
Shyly
I approached a sofa near the window
Sat myself down
Taking in the view
Admiration and respect given
To every one of you
Each one brought a dish for the table
I took a small sampling from the tray
Sitting myself back down
And tried not to get in your way
The dining room table
warm dishes of Sanchez, Baraka
The Last Poets, Giovanni and Hughes
My hosts made me feel so comfortable
I was invited to take off my shoes
and to partake in edible poetic delicacies
Lovingly prepared by all of you scribes
In the living room of this house
Hosted by Poetic Vibes
This ain't an invitation for just anybody
the guest list is specially selected
comprehensive vetting
penciled in
erased and corrected
not everyone can sit in this gathering
enjoy the vibes and consume this
organically prepared libation and meal
very little sugar or subsitute added
the scribes in here keep it real
and the table is daily emptied
never a noun, adjective or verb that goes to waste
the poetic vibes
prepared by these poetic scribes
daily delicious poetry prepared for each taste
my daily offerings to the menu
I did my best to please every pallets and tongue
flowing in the same lane of traffic
from my blessed mentor to the very young
and I hear more footsteps in the front yard
steps approaching the front door
warm greetings as the host scribes escort them
always room for one more
poetic thirst and appetites
daily well fed
you're welcome if you keep it real
keep it black
keep it authentic
is what the host of the garden party said
