We must not be so concerned about ourselves
That we forget about the concern we must have
For the children save that it be our concern
And if that be so then it should no longer be
Nonother than action towards such awareness
Ironically in the present time we must come to realize
That it is not us but the children who are the future
Of who we are to become in the coming times
Of new sunshine, full moons, and flowing life
Streaming forever upward towards oneness
For us now are certain things we must stop
And certain things we must now initiate
That the children can see…feel and crave
To mirror in their daily self-waning lives
Rather than today’s self-destruction
In the time we have left we must now reflect
To the children the mirroring of supreme love
And protection of the greatness of who we are
And how to maintain such greatness in divine
Labors of love towards each other in times of need
We the coming ancestors of the children of today
Must henceforth and forevermore cease catastrophic
Self- annihilating behaviors being reflected to the children
And mirror to them that to disagree with each other is not to
Disavoy in our togetherness in our journey toward our liberation
We must reflect that though we journey in faith and determination
Reaching the destination is not an inevitable conclusion of our hope
But the realization of what Dr. King said to us in 1958 when I was eighteen:
“Every step towards the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggle;
the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individual…” [we must be]:-
