My father’s, father, father was a slave!

Albert was born in 1898

His father, William, was born in 1853, how do I relate?

My great grandfather was literally a slave for 12 years!

Over a century ago, I wonder, what were his hopes and fears?

What has changed since my father’s, father, father’s time?

In the United States of America, back when slavery wasn’t a crime…

Rather the status quo, just to make hell on earth and a dime

Economics, laws, and religion leveraged for centuries to stymie

Millions of folks like my great grandfather William, who probably never asked, ‘Why God,’ rather, ‘Why me?’

Deep. My grandfather was born free; but never totally experience it! My father did not live long enough to experience "integration". We have lived long enough to even see a Black Preside; yet as Coalhouse has said, the present stills reeks with racist oppression! Great awareness write. Thanks for the share. Peace and Love.
