These are
and have always been
trying times—sometimes
crying times
sending red tears
down the black banks
of wrinkled faces—
Such are the times:-
We, my Brothers and Sisters,
have always been of the times,
in the times, taking time,
to teach and explain the times
that the village continues
to struggle and build in the times;
We, my Brothers and Sisters,
are the heirs of the Ancestors
of the times when humanity
had one of its greatest test of time;
still rivaling the testing times of today:
Slavery was pandemic!
Reconstruction…pandemonium!
As the Griots of the time—
today’s times—we must continue
to punch the poetic time-clock
that the Village will daily know
what time it is: God is the Clock
and we’re His timed poetic tic-tocks;
inking the tic-tocks of the word:-
Let us keep inking the time
on time, in time, all the time;
knowing the time is
and will always be, now:-
