A Sober Man’s Heart
“The triangular theory of love holds that love can be understood in terms of three components that together can be viewed as forming the vertices of a triangle. The triangle is used as a metaphor rather than as a strict geometric model. These three components are intimacy, passion, and decision/commitment. Each component manifests a different aspect of love.” – Robert J. Sternberg
I can picture the sun reflecting from off the surface of your skin
The aroma of coconut and vanilla dancing off the miniature hairs that are reemerging from out of the pores of your body.
How did you know that it was my favorite scent?
It didn’t matter if it were long, short, smooth or kinky
Your radiance never ceased to amaze me…do you really know how gorgeous you are?
Can I take this time out of our day to recite these scriptures from a sober man’s heart.
Take a piece of my soul and place it at your feet?
Hold you until my actions scream out to your ears that in all honesty…I am nothing without you?
Whether you are tall, slim, or curvy I love all phases of you.
I am in love with your creation, being, wisdom, and creativity…
I yearn to learn more and be more
Develop a remedy to share with the world about how intimacy can arrive in flesh and bone
Or how, even when you are angry and hurt
My heart unbeknownst to me weeps…because I was the one who choose to betray
Instead of protect.
I am a man of many flaws yet here you are standing at my side
Even if I were to lock myself away with my thoughts, I would never understand what you see when you look at me
I fear that I will never have the right set of words to put together
To describe the feeling that I get when we are laying away the day
My fingers intwined in your kinks while your fingers twirling away in my locs.
I wish that time could freeze,
I wish that this moment could surpass time…dementia.
Be that leverage that snaps me back to a time where nothing outside that room ever mattered.
When you and I were only two beings existing in a world that just didn’t matter.
And at times I know you cannot stand to be around me.
I wish you knew how much of an honor it was for me to just be in your presence.
If you could see the boy that looks at you behind the eyes of this man, maybe you would understand why I hold you to such a high standard.
Understand why these thoughts only seem to manifest whenever I am sober
Which always occurs whenever I am thinking of you.
Which is always
I could make love to you and only you forever
Hold you just enough to reenforce your protection
Close my eyes and see your eyes always
And forget you…its unimaginable
Sober thoughts…it’s nothing but…sober thoughts
“I loved you before I ever met you
And I’ll love you long after the world forgets us.”
Signed…
