Elegy For a Falling Sky

When swifts and sparrows
                        rain like ash

         The eagle blind ~

        mistaking shadows
        for the sun’s last rites

        their wings once hymns
                        now fractured

        its golden gaze
        rusted to a hollow moon

        clutching shadows
        where the sun once carved
                                     its throne

We bargain
with the serpent’s tongue
   trade prayers for poison

beg the void to bless . .

        devil’s arithmetic
        a calculus of thirst

        Quantum life ~

                            a riddle spun
        from Schrödinger’s breath

each heartbeat both alive and not

                              a static hum where
                    silence drowns existence

a symphony of particles dance
to rhythms older than the birth of clocks

        But here . .

silence wears a crown of noise
a crescendo of lies they call wisdom

        scripted by ghosts
who fear the weight of dawn

        They preach in glyphs
        of borrowed light

                      their wisdom
            knitted from old lies

    oracles draped in moth-eaten gold
Unravel the catechism of their whispers

        Let the propaganda
        bleed from your ears
like wax from Icarus’s fevered flight

        Unmake their syntax
        Unhear the sirens
Unknot the noose they call truth .  .

                               the wakeful mind
                              is a heretic’s pyre

textbooks reek of borrowed
scripts and alphabets

        each fact a cage
        each truth a splintered prism

        They’ll say
        the world is multiple choice

                         but reality
        has no scantron soul

        Truth is no exam
no box to check and bleed

                    It’s the scream withheld
when birds first forgot how to fly

        Press your ear
        to the wound of existence

        Hear the singular ungoverned pulse
                                    beneath the static
                                      beneath the light

        The earth when stripped
        of its false dichotomies

Breathes Only in Verbs . .

A writer of poetry, you are... so different than a poet. Consistent mastery of the word
