Hazing

This is in reference to fraternities and sororities who participate and initiates hazing.
Recently a young, black male was killed during a hazing incident while trying to become a member of a fraternity. This young man lost his life only because he wanted to be accepted and be a part of something. Something that was so meaningful to him, but something that was so unworthy and deserving of him.

Do you not know, hazing is form of cruelty?
Black men have been embarrassed and humiliated enough throughout their life.
They were beaten by their white slave masters for years back in the day and here we are, doing the white man a favor by still carrying on that tradition.

Are you saying the cruelty, beating, bullying, humiliating and degrading your brother man is something that makes you hold your head up high and be proud of? You as a leader orchestrating these rituals, does that make you “a man?” Does it make you feel empowered? Do you get your rocks off seeing another man cry?
Belittling them, beating them, cursing them, hitting them with a wooden paddle or a bag of rocks, punching them in their chest, making them eat dirt, washing your clothes, go on hunger strikes, bow down to you, instilling fear in them…

Is that something you as leaders supposed to be proud of?
Using intimidating tactics to lower and belittle someone is just cruel.
As a “Black” man, how can you even go to sleep at night knowing you just tortured and humiliated a group of young, black men?
Do you not know, these rituals have a long term effect on some of our black males, mentally, physically and emotionally? That’s why so many of them are hostile, angry, defensive, mad and abusive. They have so much aggression built up in them. They get bullied and in return, they go on and bully someone else. Now let  me be clear, I'm not saying everyone or all of them, but some of them do.

I got a question, I wanna know, where are the Core Values in building our young men up instead of tearing them down?
Making them feel the lowest of the low and then make it appear to be an honor is crazy work. You tear them down verbally, physically and mentally, you traumatize some of them and then they suppose to rise up and become strong, proud and honored to be a part of something that took some of them to a dark, hurtful, gloomy place in their life.

As for as the young man who lost his life, one of the members of the organization said, “Hazing was a choice. He had a choice. He could have chose not to do the hazing.”
By why even have that as a choice? Why even put those young men into that position?

That bull ssh should not even be an option. You should not even be implementing hazing rituals as a requirement, choice or option to become a member.

First of all, you’re NOT good enough for the white man to respect you, and then you gotta prove you’re good enough for your “Brother” man to accept you. Make it make sense.

They really should just do away with these fraternities and sororities. And yes, the sororities have their hazing rituals and initiations and things they do too, so they are not exempt from this.

Now if they are going to be around, then they need to definitely do some soul searching. They need to re-evaluate the purpose and requirements for admission. Initiate some things that would make them be truly honored to be a part of your organization.

Have them read a novel about finance, personal growth or self development, maybe do community service work, do motivational speeches at high schools to encourage the students of the importance of secondary education, donate unused clothes and shoes to the homeless, maybe volunteer at a homeless shelter, just find ways to be a positive inspiration, a shining light especially in this day and time when there is so much gloom, darkness and uncertainty.

To these fraternities and organizations, find ways to build your future members up, not tear them down. Just saying...

Black people, we are so amazing, but for some reason it always seems like we always gotta “prove” ourselves. But why, when we are the most creative, intriguing, innovative, gifted, talented, trend setters… Our style of creativity and uniqueness is unmatched. So what is it that we actually have to prove when it is already shown how amazing and awesome we are and can be, without the extra.
