Just a young black male in the peak of a promising life
the wrong was so fun it's no wonder that I couldn't do right
left many bad prints and didn't see police lights
and smoked a little green but never had did some white
teachers told me I was smart like it was something I didn't know
couldn't stand authority guess that was something that they didn't know
took so many chances I don't regret just to help me grow
I pay for my past everyday guess you do reap what you sow
trapped between the lies of what I'm suppose to be
because I'm a young black male I really shouldn't be free
the law isn't designed for people as such as me
and to overcome society I'll have to dig deep
I look back to give back for those who couldn't leap
giving a voice back to those who couldn't speak
my brothers and sister that's separated from peace
finding hell in a cell where it's harder to even sleep
lord knows some deserve it and others robbed of their time
they building more jails than schools now that's a crime
they say we the hope for the future but it's obvious that they lying
instead putting us in front of books they just want us behind the iron....
