My People

just different

It’s been a long time coming for my people and we still haven't made it

we've gone from outcasts and prisoners to under valuing ourselves through hatred

disowning our own kind so strongly, you would think we was racist

holding each other back from making it, you would think we was racing

aiming for that checkered flag, but they rather see us stripes

putting us in hostile situations, because they rather see us fight

don't give us all the answers, because they don't want us to be right

leaving us in the dark, because they don't want us to see the light

they're turning my people against each other and what's the real reason

because apart we stand for little, but together we can't be defected

it seems as though we all in the same war, but it’s hard to trust with the treason

selling each other out for nothing, who are we really pleasing

killing and hurting each other and proud they left bleeding

taking a life and ruining a life, who really happy we succeeded

no heroes among my people because they're often seen as villains

no love from my people because they don't teach us about feelings

handed us the drugs, turn around and arresting us for dealing

leaving us with little food and then arresting us for stealing

since day one of being here it’s been all about the control

tearing us apart and destroying our culture was their goal

convincing us that our people worship the devil and sold their soul

and having us love a country that was built off our gold, that they stole

my people blind to the fact but yet it’s obvious and bold

that we so far from making it, will we ever, I don't know...
