Backhand:

I've been running,

Treadmill belt jerking

Beneath overly heavy footfalls,

For years.

I can no longer be cautious,

Stand at the top of sky scrapers,

Pray,

Step over edge and hope she catches me.

But all that's left can't hold me.

I've been crying for far too long,

Emotions welling up,

For the simplest of reasons,

Wish they'd stay buried.

Numb is better than slobbering mess.

I never was the weak one.

I've been fat for too long,

But it only hurts when others take notice.

I'm used to this shell,

The outward appearance of a woman I've

Never felt in my heart.

They say you've got to think yourself thin.

Sign me up, I'm catwalk sexy,

Dangerous bravado,

All hips and scortching lips.

Lest you know the truth of this passion.

You'd do best to stand back,

I'm done running, crying,

Hating,

Shaming,

Accepting a truth that everyone else,

Seems to love more than the reality of who,

I am.

This skin,

Scars,

Stretch marks,

Lucious curves,

Are all meant for pleasure.

Mine, more than yours.

You'd do best to remember that,

If you ever hope to see anything,

But the back of my hand.
