The Church Visitor
I went to church this past Sunday; an occasion very rare
I saw some really questionable things and thought; oh how do they dare
I pulled in to the parking lot and someone cut me off
And then they actually had the nerve to look at me and scoff
I walk up to the steps where I met a host of greeters
Some of them acted so hot and mad I thought they were microwave heaters
When I came to the ushers or so I thought whose purpose was to serve
But when I tried to take a seat they told me that it was reserved
I could not help but notice there were dignitaries everywhere
I noticed this particular one sitting in the Pastor’s chair
Oh how eloquent and spiritual was the devotional prayer
I was pleased within my soul and said now we’re getting somewhere
I was really quite impressed by the spirit, of the chosen scripture reader
That feeling was wiped out when learned I was cut off by the praise team leader
Oh how the old patriarchs must really be appalled
All this senseless perpetrating won’t let the spirit fall
Since this was the first Sunday they offered me communion
It’s evident I need to repent; I am only here for my family reunion
As I sat there thinking this is really quite a mess
It’s plain to see that more than me; has a great need to confess
I remember growing up when church was sacred and sincere
At this all time all I could think about was getting the devil out of here
