Through my eyes I can see misery and pain
Young black youths trying to make it through the rain
Through my eyes I can see abuse and violence
Another victim trying to cope through silence
Through my eyes I can see the improper touch of little boys and
girls
Another child's sense of security and innocence lost in this cruel
world
Through my eyes I can see prejudice and hate
Passed down through generations to seal humanities fate
Through my eyes I can see sex before marriage
Too many young girls pushing a baby carriage
Through my eyes I can see fewer fathers in the home
Many of our young boys left in the streets to roam
Through my eyes I can see slums, ghettos, and the hood
Where many of our youth are so misunderstood
Through my eyes I can see the results of heroin and crack
Destroying many communities that are brown or black
Through my eyes I can see people who look like me
Who hate people that look like me
Through my eyes I can see genocide with no regard for life
From Rwanda to Darfur, so full of hate and strife
Through my eyes I can see Willie Lynch's philosophy has come
to pass
To separate us as a people into groups and class
Through my eyes I can see we are carrying out his plans
To enslave our body, mind, and spirit across the lands
Through my eyes I carry the stripes of my ancestors across my
back
For my ancestors carry the stripes of racism across their back
Through my eyes I can see a brighter day
For I'm an image of God molded in a unique and special way
Through my eyes I can see it all
That God is my all and all
Through my eyes I can clearly see that life is just not about me,
me, me
