When Love Was Ours

It started out as lust that night
our bodies met
for the first time.
That first kiss held me.
That first touch bound me.
I laid down on your bed
and discovered intimacy.
My legs rested on your shoulders
as your tongue rested
in my quiet place.
My senses were awakened;
stimulated by
the thought of you
inside of me.
You navigated my body
like it was
familiar to you,
taking your time to reach
each destination
as we both
enjoyed you getting there.
You placed your lips on mine
and I tasted you
tasting me.
You kissed me slowly
as though time would
wait for us.
I fell deeper into your
soul and began to drown
in your spirit.
You were so gentle with me
and every second with you
was beautiful.
You entered my body
and I wrapped myself
in that moment
feeling you fill me
as you began to swell
inside my walls.
I closed my eyes
and inhaled the scent
of our bodies connecting
and became intoxicated.
You exploded inside of me
and I melted into you.
I laid on your chest
and listened to
your heart beating
next to mine.
I lost myself to you that night
and found something worth
holding on to.
This was no longer lust,
it was something unexpected.
We created love that night;
a love that wasn’t planned,
a love we couldn’t keep,
but it was a wondrous love
between us.
I kept that love inside of
me for as long
as I could until all
that was left
was a memory.
I often think about what was
and wonder what if.
What if we would’ve held
On to that love for more
than just one night?
Where would we be
if we had allowed
our love to grow?
Time didn’t wait for us.
It moved on and
so did you,
but a part of me never could.
Years later I still hold you here
inside of me at a time when
I was yours and you were mine
and love was ours.
It was ours.
