Just hit 16
Thinkin I'm grown
Thinkin i'm tough
Like I can handle my own.
Too smart to listen,
Too slick to pay attention.
Made some new friends,
My boys,
My riders
Cool young boys who always got them dollars.
Too smart to listen,
Too slick to pay attention.
Joined a gang
Got cool wit the dealers
Makin that money
Pullin it in by the millions.
Too smart to listen,
Too slick to pay attention.
Girl's start ridin me
Givin they all for acouple tens.
She tap my mac i tap hers
It aint about nothin
Too smart to listen,
Too slick to pay attention.
Can't nobody stop us
We run these streets!
Take or get taken
You can't handle this beast!
Too smart to listen,
Too slick to pay attention.
Someone try n cross me
Pull out my 9,
The first ones a warnin
The seconds fatal say goodbye.
Still,
Too smart to listen,
Too slick to pay attention.
Higher than high
It don't get no better than this,
The girls, the money, the respect,
All grounds covered, nothin missed.
Too smart to listen,
Too slick to pay attention.
Came home drunk,
Mama's waitin up for me.
"You need to stop this foolishness!
I can't bare to lose my baby!
Ain't nothin on them bloody streets worth ya own life."
Tryin to sleep, i kept thinkin bout what she said,
Push her words aside, she don't know what she talkin bout.
Too smart to listen,
Too slick to pay attention.
Me and my boys chillin on the block,
A car pulls up, dazed faces then POP POP!
Mama's words ringin in my ears
my conscience yellin run, but my boys keep callin my name.
I pull out my 9
Take aim
It's done.
Too smart to listen,
Too slick to pay attention.
A hole through my chest,
Another through my back.
My riders took off,
they never looked back.
Too smart to listen,
Too slick to pay attention.
Now, fifteen years later
I'm lookin back over my life.
Caged in these for walls and bars,
I realize mama was right,
but i was too stupid to listen,
Too slow to pay attention.
