Bittersweet

CATEGORY

first love

What painful joy it is to see your smile

That sparks my hopes and haunts my dreams

With the possibility of you and I sharing a chocolate bar together

I'll never forget the taste of your lips

With chocolate remnants strewn along desire

Nor will I forget the sharp sting of that final goodbye

And the first hello after

Maybe I was confused -

Or delusions of grandeur struck when I dreamt of

Sharing a cup of tea together.

Love left leads me to smile when I see the twinkle in your eyes

Heartache only summons tears to water

The remains of my broken heart

All I want is to taste Rum 'n Raisin on your lips again

But God fated you to rest with more ease in her arms

Two destined hearts married in holy attraction

And the lonely musician left to strum that bittersweet melody

That softly serenades the broken-hearted.

I guess it was never my destiny to make you laugh

I just always hoped it was.
