Church As I've Known It

CATEGORY

just different

fashion show, runway Sunday

the whispers, the strippers in the choir

the deacons desire

the aisles, red carpet parades

ushers but pimps on the weekdays, wild youth

its just the sad truth

the Bishop's office, drug dealers market

that's why the first lady is in the mercedes

the same tradition exhibition

the front row Holy Ghost Show

so sanctified, hands waving like a tide, misusing

the tithes worldwide

today's church is so foul, rather sit in a burning bush

me God and my trials

The last two lines of this piece ended with me having tears and chills. This is beyond a truthful piece. I grew up in one of those small churches where everyone knew each other and God actually was the headliner and the church's center of attention. Peace and sanctity is no longer found within the church. We can no longer go to the church for help or guidance for fear of judgement or criticism. The church used to be for the community, now it's a show for those who can afford to attend. I believe having a relationship with God will lead you in the direction towards Him...whether it's within a church home or your own home! Great write!
