Inside downtown Camden
Is a lot more than meets the eye
There's more than just people walking
And cars and buses passing you by.
If you take a look, a real close look
On the steps of City Hall you will see
A man here, a woman there
People just like you and me.
They may ask you for a quarter or a dollar
But you're too afraid or too selfish to give
We look down on them and degrade them
And criticize how they live.
"What's wrong with you, can't you get a job?"
Is what many of us say
If you took a minute to find out why
You'd understand how they got this way.
They didn't ask to be placed here
Society made them this way
Instead of solving the problem
They just covered it up and walked away.
So the next time a homeless person
Asks you for a helping hand
Stop and help them without question
So we can all better understand.
