Everytime I watch the news, read the paper, or scroll the internet it saddens my soul

I imagine other races looking at it and laughing

"Another n**** show"

Constantly giving them entertainment

So they can have a reason to try to make us feel inferior to them

Fighting and Killing

Stealing from eachother

Loud and Proud

Ill mannered and uneducated

That's what the system thinks of us

Why must we continue to play into this stereotype

People living in the same type of environment but their fighting and killing eachother

FOR WHAT

To keep eachother down

The suppressor has become the suppressed

Stealing from eachother to produce even less

No respect for your fellow man

Unless you talking about the one on the block

You know the neighborhood dope man

Women constantly downgrading eachother

Rolling their eyes and snapping their teeth

Fussing and fighting over the men they see

To many babymamas not enough wives

To many fathers not enough daddies

Kids with lost hopes and dreams

Feeling like theres no way out

Single mothers tired of living in doubt

Separated by the different shades of our skin

Defining women by dimes and tens

COME TOGETHER

Why can't we uplift eachother

Our ancestores worked this land

For hundreds of years

The ground you spit on is covered in blood, sweat, and tears

LET'S BUILD TOGETHER

Because the system was built for us to fail

It was never meant for African Americans to succeed

And there are very few of us that do

Don't allow your environment to control you

You are not your circumstances

Just a product of an environment with limited chances

I imagine how strong we could be

If we all came together in unity

Helping and encouraging eachother

We would rule the nation

Instead of only coming together

When tragedies happen

"Fruitvale Station"

A new generation of civil rights leaders

Speaking to eachother with respect

Showing them that we are

More than less

Encouraging not just your kids

but all the kids in the neighborhood

to stay in school and get an education

to stay encouraged and be dream chasers

Consistently telling them that they are worthy

And I know other races have their faults

but I can only speak for mine

because my people hold my heart

And it hurts me to see us torn apart

SO DIVIDED

We are at war with eachother

If we continue like this we won't get much further

We are all bonded

YET

We are free

Please
