My Mona Lisa's Smile

CATEGORY

Can you see the secret in her smile? Do you know the story in her eyes? She takes the weight of the world on her shoulders. She doesn't talk, but holds everything in. She hides a whole story behind those eyes. She flashes her smile giving you every justification that everything's okay. You just don't know that it's a move she practices all too well. The moment you look away is when her world gets dark and lonely all over again. She spends her nights in deep thought, tormented and spiritually broken. All she has is the person people perceive her to be, nothing at all for what she is. Alone in a corner holding her knees to her chest, tears streaming down her face, paralyzed by fear. Every opportunity to move, but no will. Why does she smile? If so broken, what reason could she possibly have? There's the hope for a better day. She gets through her day alive, at night she can rest and tomorrow...it all starts again. She passes through your everday and you never think to notice...She hides so much. You see her smile, you laugh at her jokes, all the while thinking she's ok...when she's not. Her secrecy is my agony. It tugs at my heartstrings. She goes through her day to day barely surviving, only herself knowing what may be breaking her. All she holds is a drink and a pill, her hearts hidden, her mind is boggled. She takes her breaths with such intensity, like each could very possibly be her last. Sometimes I feel the closest I can get...is a million miles away. I drown in her tears. It's not what she says with her eyes, it's what she doesn't...it's not just an empty stare or blank gaze. If you're waiting for her to break she won't, at least not yet. She is just one person, holding onto so much...what other options does she have...so she smiles...what wrong is there in pretending...with just one question in her heart..."If I'm such a beautiful person...then why do I feel so flawed?...
