My feet is getting tired

Hiding from this wonderful feeling

Feels like I'm about to burst

Lift off way past the ceiling

I'm ready to take it on

The butterflies is fluttering strong

The birds are chirping songs

My spirit jumps for joy

My thoughts are racing fast

I feel the adrenaline rush

It keeps chasing me

I'm ready to be caught up

Catch feelings and all that stuff

I'm beginning to like it rough

I just can't get enough

I'm willing to be cuffed

Put a ring on somebody's finger

Set somebody free

They're doing the same for me

Makes me wanna scream

Makes me wanna shout

Gotta let it out

The roof and faucet leaks

Water drips a beat of poverty

Roaches travel the walls

Mice avoid the traps

Heat and hot water is unpredictable

Just like the weather

The forecast of our happy home

No new furniture but it's still ours

Better than a park bench or a sidewalk

Playing house in the real world

Go out to work six days a week

Just getting by to come home to you

We're gonna make it

Together we will

It gets us through the hard times

Woke up feeling new

Got last night out of my system

Last night a thing of the past

Thankful for the present

Anticipating the future

Yawn and stretch

A gesture of freedom

Grateful for the space to do so

Reaching out for better

To avoid the worst

Lurking in the shadows

Telling my reflection

That I'm somebody

I'm feeling quite grown

Adult-like

Mature beyond my years

Expecting grays

From wisdom not stress

Class is in session

Everyday I open my eyes

Taught by experience

Tested by trials

Graded by God

I give thanks

No matter the score

As I continue to wake up

To attend the school of hard knocks

Never been absent

I'm determined to graduate

With a degree of success

But I can't achieve that

Let's gather around in the sunshine

Let's bask in the glowing warmth

Shedding light on our joy

Our smiling faces

Sunrays reflecting off our teeth

Making us even more beautiful

After being watered by the rain

We grow like flowers in the garden

Blooming effortlessly under the sunshine

Exposing a rainbow so sublime

God's got his luminous eye on us

Casting a spell of optimism

Giving us hope of brighter days ahead

At the end of the tunnel of our darkest past

To play in the sunshine

Never been married she remained a single lady

Provided food and shelter for three of her babies

She did it alone

All on her own

A queen sitting on a king's throne

Wearing her crown

When she had to put her foot down
