The Life Of Aileen Wuornos

Aileen Wuornos, 'Americas first serial killer',
Surrounded by media like the zombies from 'Thriller',
With an unsettled mind and a past in hell,
6 lives were lost, 7 including hers as well.

We can only go by her words on video,
Claims she was "tortured in prison" and considered a psycho,
Everyone she loved had betrayed her in the end,
Including her lover who she claims was her "best friend".

So her story supposedly starts when she was a small child,
Mother abandoned her at birth then lived years in denial,
People would take advantage and confessed this on trial,
She slept in the snow after her father became rivalled,
He would beat her with a belt, and once made her pregnant,
Forced to give up the baby and then suffer the punishment,
Sleeping in cars and snow was finally her banishment,
The local boys filled her days with evil and torment.

Until one day when she finally had enough,
Ran off to Florida and married an old gov,
Beat him with a stick only after a month,
Then soon hit the road again where she first fell in love.

Learned how to sell her body and made enough money,
Went drinking in her local bar where she met her new honey,
They formed a close partnership if not passionate with fight,
This woman, the last to betray Aileen before the end of her life.

On one viscous evening when things seemed to be going right,
Malory the pedophile took her deep into the night,
Brutally raped her, beat her until she was unconscious,
Tied her up and took advantage, covered her in alcohol, became monstrous,
In a frantic instant when she finally breaks free,
Takes her gun from her purse then shoots Malory.

This is the beginning which led to the very end,
Her gun gave her power and a right to defend,
Money a motivation to please her girlfriend,
Kept this in her legal defence and didn't let up until the end.

So why did she confess? I hear you all ask,
I think she soon accepted leaving death row was no easy task,
Retract self-defence and replace her mask,
12 years waiting for death, an impending green path.

The after-math.....
Money, again a motivation,
Girlfriend sold her story to the media to avoid confrontation,
Made money from misfortune, denied a fair trial,
Before a decent lawyer came along making the previous liable,
Aileen didn't trust this, and could we blame her?
Her story making money with her face in the newspaper,
Nothing in it for her except lack of fair hearing,
Ignored her mental stability and attempts at death volunteering,
In the end she just wanted to die and that's what I find sad,
No consideration for her past that had led to her going 'mad',
Condemning a 'raped' and sick 'woman to death'?
When it's clear her mind was in terrible distress,
Pushed to her limits, leaving her no other choice,
To fast track to the chamber where her haters rejoice,
Consumed by their grief and understandably so,
But is it right to send a leave a sick woman on death row?

Now she finally rests in peace in a bar she now haunts,
No need to look over her shoulder and be subjected to taunts,
Her ashes with her best friend, and I wonder what we've learned,
What would we do if living in a hell like hers?
I know from experience how she must have felt,
I know what it's like to feel the leather of a belt,
Could I have snapped in the way she did? I'm sure it's not impossible,
But I never got into 'hooking' so my experiences weren't as horrible.

I feel she could have been better understood and held a better defence,
With the knowledge I have now, her mental state would make a difference,
Wouldn't have allowed her voice to go un-listened,
Protected her privacy as her constitutional right when imprisoned,
She was failed by the system and when murder is removed,
The outlook of this woman could be greatly improved,
I just hope to god this never happens again,
And she's resting in peace in her own piece of heaven.
