Innocent eyes gaze
At the city streets below
High above on the ninth floor
Safe from harm under the
Watchful eye of his grandmother
I can't help but wonder
What he's thinking.
Oblivious to the realities of
His city he looks out the window
At the tops of the trees
The highways off in the distance
The cars, trucks and buses
On the streets just below him.
Again I wonder what he's thinking.
I move to stand behind him
To take a look for myself.
One I've seen many times before
Just slightly different this time.
Sitting silently, this beautiful little boy
Amazes me and he's only 3.
I pray that giving him this opportunity
To see a mere speck of his world
In a way which only few
Have come to know
Will keep his mind set on the horizon
As he continues to grow.
He is Aiden Elijah Alvarez
Grandma's silent wonder.
